IBM supports data utilization of major national institutions with data and AI-specialized storage solutions

IBM announced that it will support the safe and efficient data operation of major national institutions in Korea based on its storage technology specialized in big data and AI. In addition, it plans to provide an optimal infrastructure for hybrid cloud data through IBM Spectrum Fusion Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI), a newly launched container-native storage solution.

With the IBM Elastic Storage System (ESS), an integrated Software Defined Storage (SDS) for AI and big data, IBM is providing fast and outstanding performance across IT infrastructure from the edge to data centers to public clouds. It provides extensibility.

It can also consolidate storage requirements across multiple platforms, including Kubernetes and Red Hat OpenShift. This reduces inefficient tasks, reduces costs, manages storage easily, and supports multiple workloads that require high performance.

In Korea, many companies and institutions, including GC Green Cross Genome, Afreeca TV, and Sungkyunkwan University, have introduced IBM ESS to effectively utilize data. Recently, the National Meteorological and Physiology Center of the Korea Meteorological Administration and the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) introduced large-capacity and high-performance data storage from IBM.

The National Meteorological Satellite Center of the Korea Meteorological Administration is a representative domestic institution that introduced IBM's large-capacity and high-performance data storage. It stores and analyzes various satellite reception data through IBM ESS, and processes data generated over 5PB per year. Various data management functions and IBM Active File Management (AFM) functions of IBM Spectrum Scale, the main engine software of ESS and a high-performance parallel file system solution, can cope with various issues that occur during data management operations. have. It is characterized by increased physical space utilization by providing up to 10PB of usable capacity in one rack.

The Institute for Basic Science has built and operated a large-scale AI and HPC infrastructure to conduct national basic science research. With the introduction of IBM ESS 5000 storage and TS4500 tape storage, data is stored and managed economically and efficiently while ensuring data accessibility and convenience. In particular, by linking IBM Spectrum Scale and IBM Spectrum Archive, an archiving solution, high-performance storage and tape storage can be managed in a single namespace, and even long-term data can be accessed without performance degradation.

As the digital modernization journey centered on cloud-native applications accelerates, enterprises are adopting hyperconverged systems that support containers, creating applications based on microservices architectures, and deploying them as containers. The new IBM Spectrum Fusion HCI is a system designed to simplify container development and provide easy access to hybrid clouds. Red Hat OpenShift, which provides container-based infrastructure, integrates compute, storage, network and services to help you build, manage, deploy, and run concurrently, high-performance, pre-built security, and containerized applications.

IBM Spectrum Fusion HCI is a platform specialized in data modernization and AI services. The company explained that it can easily transition to a microservice architecture on Red Hat OpenShift and provides an optimal environment for machine learning, deep learning and AI development based on high-performance GPU and computing power. It can also increase storage utilization to reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) and improve return on investment (ROI). In addition, it is possible to control resources from the integrated dashboard with a simple and flexible UI, and to simply upgrade, backup and restore software, and to monitor the status of events at all times.

Based on the existing IBM ESS solution and the newly launched Spectrum Fusion HCI, IBM announced that it plans to provide more powerful storage services for enterprise data and AI across various IT infrastructure environments.
